May Day

The month of May always leaves me with that "Sunday night in high school" feeling. You know, that anxious & excited, but almost dreaded feeling? Where I grew up, we didn't get out of school until mid June, so May was another full month of school before we could even start thinking about the end of the year. Now, as an adult, it's that last month before a lot of major events in my life; a summer doing EFY, the summer we were married, & last year our summer in Michigan. This year, we are spending the month soaking in the last few sights of Michigan, outings & parties with friends, a long drive back to Arizona, and ending with the excitement of graduation. One of these outings was going to a local working farm for the day with a picnic. Did I mention it was 76 degrees & glorious. Oh May, keep up the good work.

A Formal Farewell

I honestly have nothing but {mostly} good things to say about living here in the state that looks like a mitten. Yes, I too describe locations in Michigan by holding up my hand and pointing. It's a thing here, guys, don't worry. Our first few months here in the summer were spent enjoying much cooler temperatures then we were used to and exploring all things outdoors. We went to the Zoo, Greenfield Village & a local orchard for only the freshest of fruits and veggies. I also made sure to make it to the lake at least once a week and dip my toes in the ice cold water. This winter has been a long one. It has finally started to warm up, and the grass is getting greener & greener with each new day. Morning rain is even help bring the trees to life, and all the geese are flying back up North. Before we know it, we will pack up and head West to where our hearts feel at home. I have a feeling all of our memories of this place will be well kept in our minds, and especially all of our friends. The saying is true, Mid-Westerners are seriously some of the friendliest people around.

Our {little} Corner

Here is a peek into our little corner in Michigan. Since we are only here temporarily  we didn't bring all of our belongings with us. We like to call it "glorified camping", and I think we did a pretty good job of making it look like a home.

A Snowed In Weekend

On Saturday morning I was up before the sun sending Derek off to the hospital. As I peeked out the window, I could tell it was going to be a day where wool socks & the comfiest of sweaters would be worn. It seemed as though the storm held out for Derek to return home that afternoon, and then dumped buckets of  that fluffy white stuff New Yorkers call Nemo, and Michigan calls Tuesday. We promptly decided to push our dinner date and opted for an afternoon nap and then even more snuggling when we moved the mattress out to the front room for the night. So it was grilled cheese, orange crush, tile rummy & Netflix date night.  Oh, we threw some Oreo's in at the end too...what's a date without a little something sweet?

That Time it was 40 Degrees & My Heart Skipped a Beat

It's true. It skipped a beat and started dancing to it. So, I headed out to the  morning sun, and promptly realized it may have been 40 degrees, but that wind made it feel like negative 40.
Darn you wind.

Summer Rain

Like mentioned in earlier posts, we have experienced many summer rain storms. Waking up to bursts of bright white lightening in the early hours of the morning has been both exciting and terrifying at times. The thunder on the other hand, is just terrifying. After Derek left for the hospital a few mornings ago, I went out and snapped a few photos. It was so beautiful and refreshing to see the grass and trees wet, like they had just taken a shower. A few minutes later, the thunder started again, and you better believe I was running as fast as my furry boot feet could carry me.

Westview Orchard

Although this past weekend was spent inside watching the Olympics opening ceremony/events and grabbing take out for dinner, we snuck out for an afternoon adventure on Saturday to a local orchard & cider mill. We had a great time laughing at the farm animals, especially before the thunder began and they all became just a little spooked. The baby goats especially won over our hearts, until they started chewing on our shoes, pants, and thinking the camera was food. We came home with fresh peaches & warm house made cinnamon and sugar donuts. It was a fun afternoon and I only wish we could come back in the fall for pumpkin picking, hay rides, and corn field mazes.

Leopard Print Feet

If someone would have told me even last year that this summer I would be living in Michigan right now, I would've laughed. I read some blog entries early in our marriage and was laughing at the fact about how closed minded I was about the Mid West. I even wrote "NO MICHIGAN" in one of them. Thankfully, I grew up a little bit and became open minded to the idea of moving somewhere completely and totally different. With that, I would have never imagined it being almost August and wearing leopard slippers everyday because I find myself "cold". Or waking up to beautiful displays of lightening and loud rain pounding down on our balcony and BBQ. It has seriously been such a treat to be here during this beautiful time of year and enjoying the green & mild weather. It's even more crazy to think that our time here is almost coming to an end, and soon I will be living in California with my family again while Derek travels for clerkships from coast to coast. Maybe he should take the slippers for his long drives? I mean, they are his anyways.

Fueling Up

This is what it takes to get "reasonably" priced gas these days?
Guess I will grab a Dr. Pepper, my kindle & put the car in park.
