DC Bound

{Photo from our trip to Greenfield Village}
Today we packed up our little apartment in Michigan and waved goodbye for 5 months. We're off to DC for Derek's first clerkship and I couldn't be more excited! I have never been  to the Capitol City before, so I got myself a book and read up on what I should see in my short time I will be here. After a few days in the city, I will of course have a tearful goodbye as Derek drops me at the airport and I fly to California where I will be staying during Derek's travels across the country, with of course monthly visits to him at his locations.
Any tips & must sees or eats while we're both in the Capitol City?

Bubbly Toes

Although Derek is studying to become a podiatrist, there is something that needs to be said about me and feet. I really don't like feet. At all. In high school, my friends would tease me about not liking feet and always throw them in my face, or even sneak them onto my feet/legs in the movie theater. I know, I have really nice friends, don't I? Later in college, when Derek and I first started dating, I was over at his apartment with some of his roommates and friends and we started talking about things we hate. I boldly proclaimed, "I hate feet. I think being a podiatrist would be the worst job EVER!" Derek turned toward me, and nicely said, "Umm, that's what I'm going to medical school to become." Literally, I was shocked. {Did I really just say that out loud to a boy I like? A boy I really, really like? Crap, it's over. Done. He will never talk to me again.} Luckily, he decided it was funny, put his arm around me and gave me a hug. And ever since that day, he teases me about feet, even though my opinion has changed. Now when I see feet, I don't see something that I hate. I see something that makes me really happy, and that is
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
But, I still prefer feet the way they are pictured above. All clean and soapy. Perfect for my future podiatrist to rub.

Birthday Wishlist

wish list

With my birthday approaching within the next few weeks, and another move looming in the future, Derek asked me to put together some ideas for him. Since he will be in DC for my birthday, I have a feeling we will be celebrating a bit early. On the other hand, I am excited to spend my birthday with my family at home, since I haven't in 7 years! Here are some things I have had my eye on the past few months, but of course I would be happy with anything this sweet boy of mine does for me, no matter the price.

Two years ago we tied the knot.
What a wonderful two years has it been.

When Derek Ran the Olympic Torch

With the Summer Olympics in full force and the nation locked in to watching TV as much as possible, I figured there wouldn't be a better time to share the story of Derek running the torch in the Winter of 2002. In high school, Derek was nominated to run the torch by fellow classmates. Weeks later, a letter came in the mail informing him he had been chosen to help run the torch through Twin Falls, Idaho. He ran two legs in his   official Olympic track suit {maybe his sparking love of track suits in the first place?} and was able to carry the torch some of the way. The torch then went on to be carried to help light the big torch in Salt Lake City a few weeks later. At the finish, he was welcomed by his family who cheered for him the whole way in, what looks like, warm & cozy coats for that cold Idaho morning.

Summer Rain

Like mentioned in earlier posts, we have experienced many summer rain storms. Waking up to bursts of bright white lightening in the early hours of the morning has been both exciting and terrifying at times. The thunder on the other hand, is just terrifying. After Derek left for the hospital a few mornings ago, I went out and snapped a few photos. It was so beautiful and refreshing to see the grass and trees wet, like they had just taken a shower. A few minutes later, the thunder started again, and you better believe I was running as fast as my furry boot feet could carry me.
